The discernment process I am referring to, of course, is the question of whether to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church. I think there are some first order questions that should be asked and answered (both individually and as a congregation) before starting this quest: 1. Am I willing to put some work into understanding the questions and searching for answers? 2. What do I really know about the basic beliefs of the United Methodist Church? 3. What do I really understand about the governmental structure of the United Methodist Church? 4. Where do I go to get good information to answer my questions? 5. What is my own attitude towards this process? 6. What should my attitude be towards this process?
